What is the Nicest Greek Island for Couples?
The ‘Nicest’ Greek island for couples will ultimately depend on what you want to get out of your trip and what you plan to do. Do you want to go on romantic walks on a less touristy island or dine in some of the best restaurants in Greece, discover the best beaches or discover the Greek nightlife?
The nicest greek island for couples is famously Santorini, an idyllic destination perfect for a romantic trip. You can explore the charming village of Oia, go winetasting at world-renowned wineries, go on a romantic boat trip, watch one of the best sunsets in the world and have candlelit dinners.
The island’s luxurious resorts are often tailored for couples with features like infinity pools with panoramic views.
However, although Santorini is an ideal island for couples, there are plenty of other nice islands in Greece for couples – some more undiscovered than others.
Here are the best islands in Greece for couples, as recommended by top travel bloggers.
The Best Cyclades Islands for Couples
When you think of romantic Greek islands, you’ll probably picture walking through whitewashed lanes, looking at blue-domed churches and relaxing on pristine beaches.
The traditional Cycladic architecture is whitewashed buildings with blue domed churches.
Each island in the Cyclades is very different, from the sunset-kissed terraces of Santorini to the charming windmills of Mykonos, the nightlife of Ios and the stunning beaches of Naxos (Agios Prokopios is my favourite). Discover the perfect Cycladic island to visit below.
1. Santorini
If you are looking for a perfect island for couples in Greece, then look no further. The island of Santorini is one of the most stunning islands you will ever be on and is best suited for couples.
I guess many of you have heard about this island because many celebrities choose to go there, but it is really beautiful and breathtaking.
The island is on a mountain, and you have a beautiful view from anywhere on the island in addition all the houses and hotels there are white in colour and this adds to the romantic and elegant atmosphere
You can arrive by direct flight or by flight with a stopover via Athens.
We rented a scooter to get around and felt it was a fun and romantic way to explore the island.
Where should you visit?
Santo Winery – The winery has the best view of the island, and of course, that means it is also the most popular, so you should reserve a place in advance. I recommend booking a place there for sunset because of the amazing view.
You can order a tasting of 5 or 10 wines and food there
This restaurant also has a perfect view, and there is great wine and delicious food. Before entering the restaurant, you will find an excellent place to take photos.
Another of my top recommendations is Red Beach. It took us about half an hour to reach it on the scooter, and then another ten-minute walk to the beach itself. What is special about this beach is the red colour of the mountain that surrounds the beach.

2. Ios
Halfway between Naxos and Santorini, Ios is a small Cycladic Island, mostly known as a party destination. But look beyond that reputation, and you’ll discover a delightful destination for a couple’s trip.
A hilly island, Ios offers the perfect background for an active trip. Embark on a hike (guided or not) and enjoy the fantastic scenery. The Mylopotas Beach to Klima Beach route offers incredible views and access to a secluded beach.
Read more about Mylopotas Beach in our Ios family accommodation guide.
Pass by the supermarket before you embark on the hike and get some local staples to enjoy at an impromptu romantic picnic at Klima Beach. And if you want, take a dip in the water.
In the evening, walk past the windmills all the way to Gaitis Museum. The sunset views are amazing!
Stroll in Chora hand in hand, getting lost in the maze of narrow streets. Walk to the church with the palm tree – you’ll be rewarded with some stunning views (some of the best views in Greece).
Even though Ios is a tiny island, it boasts some incredible tavernas. The food is fresh and, if you like cheese, make sure to ask for the local one in your Greek Salad. Other foods to enjoy on Ios include the freshly caught grilled fish, tzatziki, and stuffed zucchini blossoms.
Lord Byron in Chora or Drakos Taverna at Mylopotas Beach are just two wonderful options for your meals.
Galini Pension is a wonderful budget option, and it is close to the port and beach. The double rooms come with a kitchenette and a small balcony. And if you want to splurge a bit, The Far Out Hotel & Spa at Mylopotas Beach offers gorgeous rooms with sea views and an overall pampering experience.

3. Naxos
Naxos, a peaceful Greek island nestled in the heart of the Cycladic cluster in the Aegean Sea, offers a serene escape for couples and some of the most romantic views in Greece.
It’s a fantastic destination on its own but can also be a great island to include in any island-hopping itinerary, as you will find plenty of things to do even if you plan to spend just one day in Naxos.
Naxos’ whitewashed main town, Chora, is idyllic for couples and perfect for long walks along cobblestoned alleys. Here, you will discover secret hidden gardens with colorful bougainvillea, stunning little churches, and ancient buildings. One is the Sanoudo Kastro, an imposing fortress built in 1207 that once protected the village against pirate attacks.
Not far from Chora, you can explore the ancient Portara, one of the most impressive archaeological ruins on the island. It’s located a few minutes from the port and is the most romantic place to enjoy the views of the sun setting on the horizon.
If you and your partner prefer to sunbathe and swim, the beaches of Naxos won’t disappoint. Not far from the centre of town, Plaka is one of the most beautiful shores on the island. It is surrounded by high dunes, and the coastline is shallow while, opposite the coast, a promenade with dozens of beach bars offers the perfect setting for an afternoon cocktail and romantic music.
The area is also home to many small boutique hotels and studios right by the sea, making it a unique place to stay, especially for couples.
When it comes to romantic day trips, you can rent a car and venture into the mountains to explore Halki, one of the most beautiful villages on the island, and the perfect place to taste delicious traditional dishes or purchase some of the most famous Naxos’ souvenirs, such as handmade textiles or a bottle of Kitron, a typical Naxian spirit.
If you’re in the mood for a romantic dinner at night, head to Tavern o Paradisos, located right on the sand between Plaka and Agia Anna beaches. It’s not just one of the best food places in Naxos, but dining under the tamarisk trees just meters from the water will make all the difference!

4. Milos
From the ends of the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, there are romantic islands to explore all over the world. But none of them can quite compare to the romance Milos, Greece delivers.
Even more so, Milos is known as the island of Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. We took a day trip out on a catamaran to some of Milo’s most beautiful swimming spots and beaches – which is a must-do in Milos as the best beaches aren’t accessible by car! Throughout the day, the crew pointed out romantic tales like “if you get the last drop of wine out of the bottle, you will have a happy marriage” and took us to a church where you ring a bell if you want to have a blissful future with your partner.
Milos is also an incredibly small island with two main towns, Adamantas and Plaka. Adamantas is located lower, near the ferry port, while Plaka requires a trek up a mountain. Both are worth visiting, but staying closer to Adamantas is much more convenient.
Milos doesn’t just offer beaches, however. You’ll also find some epically romantic restaurants (Nostos is one of our favourites), short hikes that lead to breathtaking views, and even a little shopping. All in all, you simply can’t go wrong with visiting this island of love with your partner.

5. Tinos
Tinos is part of the Cyclades Islands of Greece and is often forgotten due to its more famous neighbour, Mykonos. This, however, makes Tinos an ideal destination for couples seeking a quiet romantic getaway.
The island itself does not have an airport which means you’ll arrive by ferry, either from Mykonos or Athens. When you arrive in Tinos it is recommended that you hire a car, this will allow you to enjoy several secluded beaches on the island. If you are looking for a romantic stay on the island try TinosVillages or Panormos Art Suites in the north of the island.
Couples can spend their days exploring the island’s picturesque towns, such as Volax is known for its traditional basket weaving or Pyros known for its marble craftsmen. Perhaps you would rather spend your days beach hopping along some of Tinos’ beautiful beaches.
For a memorable restaurant experience you can dine at one of the waterfront tavernas like O Nitos or head to Panormos Town for several different waterside dining options.
Tinos offers some of the most breathtaking sunset views in the Cyclades. Watch the sunset over the sea and Mykonos Island from the Church of Isternia or cliffside bar Dentro. Alternatively enjoy a romantic date night at Vaptistis Winery with one of their cheese boards and a bottle of their Rose.

6. Mykonos
Alice from Adventures of Alice recommends Mykonos “Mykonos is definitely one of the best Greek islands for couples. We spent a delightful long weekend there in October last year and it was the perfect place for us. My fiance is a huge lover of history and I love photography and beautiful views and Mykonos delivered on both counts.
A few of the most romantic things you can do on Mykonos include going on a boat trip around the island, going for a drink at one of the bars in Little Venice, or hiking up to my favourite free sunset spot in Mykonos, Boni’s Windmill.
The old town of Mykonos is also a fantastic place to go if you want a romantic stroll. But, I recommend visiting in the off-season as peak summer can get super crowded. There are several attractions to explore in the old town including the famous Mykonos Windmills, the beautiful Church of Panagia Paraportiani, and the Little Venice waterfront.
As well as romantic things to do, there are a range of fantastic places to stay in Mykonos that have made the island rather famous. You can find boutique hotels, self-catering apartments with private hot tubs, and luxury hotels with private infinity pools”.
Lavina D’Souza o of Continent Hop also recommends Mykonos for couples “When it comes to one of the best Greek islands for couples, Mykonos rightfully steals all the spotlight. Honeymooner’s favourite, Mykonos, is all about sandy beaches and sunsets. When it comes to romantic things to do in Mykonos, windmills, luxurious yachts, and bustling nightlife make for the perfect itinerary.
If you want to dance the night away with your partner, Paradise Beach is the place to be! The beach bar and open-air clubbing will ensure you have a great night.
Take a walk around Little Venice, where tiny cafes and waterfront restaurants offer a romantic setting to sit back and enjoy good food paired with refreshing drinks. If you love seafood, head to the Vegera Restaurant Cafe Bar. Niko’s Taverna, founded in 1976, is a great place that offers local delicacies.
Head to Lia Beach if you want to catch some tan, soak in the sunset, or go snorkelling. The soft, golden sand at Ornos Beach invites you to take a relaxing stroll with your loved one.
Embark on a thrilling sailing trip from Mykonos to Delos. Exploring the sea and the ancient monuments around the Delos archeological site adds a touch of adventure to your romantic getaway. Know more about island hopping from Mykonos and pick your favourite destination.
You can stay in one of the luxurious resorts in Agios Ioannis Beach, as it is away from bustling touristy crowds, giving you a perfect opportunity to spend some romantic time with your partner. If you are all about exploring everything Mykonos has to offer, then Poseidon Hotel Suites is the place to be!”
7. Folegandros
Folegandros is a true hidden gem that exceeded all our expectations. Escape the crowds and hordes of tourists of Mykonos and Santorini and discover the romance of Folegandros. This island has only 700 inhabitants, which makes it unique; the local residents all know each other and are very happy with your arrival.
Take a romantic walking tour to the Church of Panagia Folegandros, a beautiful Orthodox church. The road to this church is challenging, but one of the most romantic you could wish for. See the photo below. Admire the sunrise or sunset with a delicious glass of champagne.
Then explore the capital, where you will enjoy endless views of the Aegean Sea. Stroll through the picturesque streets, decorated with trees, ivy and flowers. In the evening the squares come alive, perfect for a delicious dinner or to enjoy local wine at the Souvlaki Club.
Furthermore, Folegandros has a number of beautiful beaches to visit. Agali Beach is the most popular and accessible beach. Agios Nikolaos is a beach where many leave their bathing suits at home and which can only be reached on foot or by boat.
For an unforgettable stay we recommend ANEMI Folegandros. This hotel offers star treatment with a spa, outdoor pool, gym and a delicious breakfast buffet. Folegandros is the romantic destination you must visit.

8. Paros
Paros is a true pearl of the Cyclades and definitely one of the most beautiful places in Greece for couples. Pure romance awaits you on this picturesque island, perfect if you are planning a love vacation.
There are many lovely things to experience in Paros, including picturesque villages by the sea and inland, stunning beaches, and plenty of good taverns for romantic dinners.
Be sure to visit Naoussa, the famous fishing village with its snow-white houses. Here, you can take a great couple of photos, get lost in the narrow streets, and dine in the local fish taverns. We recommend Sigi Ikthios, where you can enjoy delicious seafood.
Another must-see is Lefkes in the hinterland of Paros. Here you find many romantic places and get to know Greece as pictured. Furthermore, the breathtaking beaches of Paros are also beautiful. A real gem for lovers is the coastal section of Kolimbithres, known by locals as the “baptismal pool”. A velvety soft sandy beach with incredible rock formations awaits you. Sporty couples should also visit Paros Park, which is located nearby. There you can go hiking and enjoy the beautiful Lighthouse.
An insider tip for couples is the fishing village of Piso Livadi. Located on the romantic east coast of the island, it is a real gem for a relaxing stay in Paros. Here you will also find some cosy accommodations, such as the charming Elena Studios & Apartments.

Best Ionian Islands for Couples
The Ionian Islands are located east of Mainland Greece, away from the other Greek Island groups. When visiting the Ionian islands, you’ll find lush landscapes, the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea and pristine beaches. From the famous islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia to secluded gems like Paxos, each Ionian island is romantic in its own way.
9. Zakynthos
Zakynthos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It offers lush greenery and natural scenery that can be a romantic getaway for couples who seek to reconnect with nature. Whether you choose to relax at secluded beaches or look for breathtaking landscapes, Zakynthos Island has it all.
One of the most visited places on the island for couples is the Blue Caves and Keri Caves. Both are hidden treasures that offer unforgettable experiences. I highly recommend you explore them as couples. You will not only be mesmerized by their beauty but also reconnect with your significant other.
Another must-visit destination for couples is Shipwreck Beach, which is also known as Navagio Beach which is one of the best things to do in Zante. It is known for its azure water and limestone cliffs. I would highly recommend exploring the shipwreck that is available on the beach and joining the tour. You will learn more facts about the Shipwreck and enjoy the quietness of the place as a couple.
Not to forget, Askos Stone Park, which is a wildlife sanctuary and zoo. This is a great place to enjoy wildlife and support their agriculture research. You can feed the animals and interact with them. You expect to see hawks, horses, goats, grand peacocks, turtles, and a lot more. There is a tour guide who will answer your questions and show you around.
You can take your partner on a romantic date at Cave Damianos Restaurant. Perched above Damianos Caves outside of the Agala village, the restaurant ambience is beyond imagination. You get a view above the cliff where the sky meets the Ionian Sea. It can for sure take your breath away.

10. Kefalonia
While many visitors to the Greek Islands flock to Santorini or Mykonos, the island of Kefalonia is a perfect island to visit for a couple’s holiday.
Kefalonia is the largest of the islands in the Ionian Sea. Located west of the Peloponnese Peninsula, it’s an easy ferry ride from Kyllini or Patras.
The villages of Kefalonia are spectacular. The picturesque village of Assos is a fantastic place to visit with your significant other. You can hike up to the castle on the hill overlooking Assos for amazing views. After, a romantic meal at a seaside café is an excellent way to relax together.
Outdoor adventuring couples will love the natural beauty of Kefalonia. A sea kayak trip along the Kefalonia shore goes to sea arches and caves. You can also rent a powerboat to cruise along the shore and explore uninhabited Kefalonia beaches. An afternoon enjoying a remote beach all to yourself is perfect for couples.
Kefalonia is touted to have the most beautiful beach in Greece. Visit Myrtos Beach for its jaw-dropping beauty. Additionally, many beaches with crystal clear water dot the Kefalonia seashore. Rent lounge chairs and beach umbrellas for a romantic time chilling on the beach.
For a special dinner together try the Paradise Beach Restaurant in the cute town of Agia Effimia. You can’t beat the view over the turquoise seas or the yummy traditional Greek cuisine.
The magnificent beaches, natural beauty, great food, and friendly people of Kefalonia make it a great place for a couple’s vacation.
Kefalonia is reachable via ferry services from other islands in the Ionian group. The island also has an airport serving flights from major European destinations (see our list of Airports in Greece here). You can also travel to Kefalonia from Athens by bus, transfer, or taxi.

11. Paxos
Are you hunting for one of the best Greek islands for couples? Then, going to Paxos Island is one of the ideal choices! Many people don’t even know about the island’s existence, but Paxos is a destination you don’t want to miss as a couple.
Paxos is tucked away in the Ionian island region south of Corfu, making for an unforgettable vacation. The island holds a beautiful, versatile landscape with stunning beaches, villages, and natural wonders.
A major benefit of visiting Paxos over famous places like Santorini is that it is still an unspoiled paradise. Couples can enjoy a more peaceful, authentic island that doesn’t charge absurd rates and have overcrowding problems.
One of the best things to do as a couple in Paxos is take a boat tour to admire its beauty. There are several options, including the Blue Caves, where you can see and swim in some of the bluest waters on the island.
Another popular boat tour you can go on as a couple is to the nearly uninhabited Antipaxos sister island. Antipaxos is a perfect day trip to enjoy some of the clearest waters you’ll find in Greece.
The several charming villages around Paxos are also worth visiting for couples! For example, you can explore the beautiful beaches in Lakka, try delicious cuisine, and appreciate the surrounding landscape. Nionios and Alexandros are two great tavernas in that village.
A superb accommodation choice for couples is Paxoi Resort. Located in the main town of Gaios, this adults-only accommodation has a swimming pool, hot tub, and cozy rooms.

13. Thassos
Thassos, a quiet hidden gem in the Aegean Sea, is a dream destination for couples seeking an unforgettable romantic getaway. What makes Thassos so enchanting for lovers? It’s the island’s blend of natural beauty, serene ambience, and picturesque charm that creates an idyllic setting for romance.
Couples can start their adventure by exploring the quaint villages of Panagia and Theologos. These picturesque spots are perfect for leisurely strolls along cobblestone streets, where traditional architecture and local shops offer unique holiday souvenirs.
For those who seek seclusion, Thassos’ pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters (like that of the famous Marble Beach) provide intimate settings for relaxation and cherished moments together.

14. Lesvos
The Greek island of Lesvos is THE place where my boyfriend and I return when we need a little break without the children. To be honest, I don’t think they would love this destination. There are hardly any activities tailored to the little ones and few big hotels. But for couples, it’s paradise.
First of all, it’s a quiet place, with lots of amazing restaurants (the food in Lesvos is better than elsewhere in Greece, too). Add to this cosy wine bars, quiet beaches, and lots of alleys shaded by flowers and plants, and you’ve got yourself the perfect spot to while away for more than a few hours.
First-timers should consider staying in Molyvos or Petra. Molyvos (the most magical town on earth) boasts fantastic dining options, especially near the port. However, Petra has a better beach.
Aphrodite Hotel in Molyvos is a solid choice for accommodations. While we also used to love Orfeas for its peaceful vibe, the service has declined since it changed ownership.
May, June, and September are ideal times to visit. The weather’s just right, and the crowds haven’t descended yet, so you’ll always snag a table at your favourite eateries.
