Best Places to Stay in Kos

There are so many lovely areas to stay on the island of Kos with kids. Here are our top picks:

Kos Town – The Capital

If you’re looking to stay in an area with plenty of amenities and things to do for kids, Kos town is a perfect choice. If you’re island hopping to Kos or staying a short time on the island, Kos town is also the best place to stay.

There’s a range of accommodations to suit all budgets.

Kos Town has two main beaches – Kritika Beach is a large beach within easy walking distance to the centre of town with shallow waters perfect for children. Kos Town Beach is a long thin strip of sand very close to the centre.

For history lovers, Kos Town is the cultural centre of the island. There are some fantastic greek ruins in Kos town, from a small Ancient Agora (compared to the one in Athens) to Kos Town Castle.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants for you to try some traditional Greek cuisine. The harbour area is full of lovely cafes, bars and ice-cream shops, perfect for an informal bite to eat. There are also excursion boats that head out to nearby beaches. In the town itself, you’ll find a mixture of cafe’s bars and restaurants as well as plenty of shops. Check out Farmers Public Market for plenty of Greek souvenirs, from olive oil and greek herbs to olives and soaps.

If you don’t have a car, Kos Town is the best place to explore the island and is the island’s main hub. To explore Kos town itself, a little tourist train runs around the town and the nearby beaches.
